"My wife Laura and I have been living for a year now in a wonderful addition to our house done by Alan and Richard at Added Dimensions. We had them rebuild the upstairs bedrooms and both bathrooms. They built a garage and a screened-in porch, along with numerous small details that needed replacement or repair. In the final analysis, there’s nothing significant that I can say they did wrong. They are first-rate builders. Here are a few observations:

• They were extremely good at advising us ahead of time when construction would intrude on our day-to-day lives. When they set a schedule they followed the schedule.
• Their sub-contractors impressed me. Plumbers, electricians, drywall people, etc. do much of a renovation. All the sub-contractors were impressive in their own right.
• They apparently have a good cash flow. They never pressed us for payment, though we paid fairly quickly. We never heard subcontractors griping about payment, either.
• Alan and Richard, principals of Added Dimensions, usually split up the jobs with one being the “lead” partner on a project. Alan was the lead on our project, but I was amazed at how much Richard knew about our project if Alan wasn’t in the office. They seem to be very good managers.
• An architect, with whom we were very satisfied, designed our renovation. But Alan made a number of suggestions on details that really improved the end product. His suggestions were practical, such as a way to make the planned closet even bigger. They are hands-on owners.
• Inevitably renovation has “change orders”—construction that must be changed due to peculiarities of the building or changes of the owner’s mind. We found their pricing of change orders to be very honest. By the time we discovered a needed change, we were a captive market. They never took advantage of us.
• We can honestly say that we think our project was treated as if it were their own.
